Canadian Skip Sets Sights on "Orange"

Calgary's top skip has been named Lead runner in a team of marathoners for next springs 42k Scotiabank Calgary Marathon.

"This might be my biggest mental challenge yet, says the curling captain.

The 43 year old is known for her avid fitness, but has never run a marathon of any kind.

"Go big or go home”, says Bernard.

The former Olympic Silver medalist recently missed out qualifying to represent Canada in Sochi but that hasn’t stymied her motivation for competition.  Bernard is now building a team of runners to race for Team World Vision in support of child health projects around the globe.

"This is my give back moment, and I believe the bigger team I build, the more children we can help, says Bernard.

Next week Bernard begins a fitness-training regime lasting 26 weeks. She will be mentored and trained by a team of marathon experts including Calgary Dr. Peter Nieman

Bernard will be training out of GoodLife Fitness facilities to accommodate her speaking engagements across Canada for the city of Alberta.

"We are so proud that Cheryl has agreed to wear Orange in support of children, says Team World Vision spokesperson Leo Tang.
